GUWAHATI, Oct 25 - Preliminary forensic examination into the October 13 blast in Guwahati has drawn a blank, as the investigating agencies continue to remain clueless about the nature of explosives used to trigger the explosion that had left four people injured.

Top sources in Assam Police told The Assam Tribune that the preliminary forensic report has failed to identify the nature of explosives used in the blast.

A senior Assam Police official said they are now pinning hopes on the report of the Central Forensic Science Laboratory (CSFL) of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in New Delhi.

The CSFL is also conducting a chemical analysis test on the exhibits sent there a day after the blast. "We are expecting the report to come from the CSFL very soon," the official asserted.

Along with the Forensic Science Laboratory at Guwahati, exhibits from the blast site were collected by teams of the Indian Army and the Criminal Investigation Department (CID).

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) too is following the developments vis--vis the blast that took place near Sukreswar ghat a few days before Durga Puja.

"We have received the findings of the preliminary report which could not pinpoint the presence of any specific kind of explosive. There are several other stages of the test which would, meanwhile, continue," the official stated.

"After the blast, the site was examined properly and there are times when the examination conducted on the remnants or splinters collected from the crime scene take time. Experts are on the job," he said.

Moreover, although the banned ULFA had claimed responsibility for the blast, investigators are yet to put the finger on any outfit with conviction.

Police recently arrested a person in connection with the case registered with the Pan Bazar police station. The man was later sent to judicial custody.
