Pranab Baruah Award

GUWAHATI, Feb 22 � The 13th Pranab Baruah Award was presented to eminent artiste from Manipur, Koolchandra M�Them, at a function held at the Vivekananda Kendra today.

The award which carries a trophy, a citation and Rs 25,000 in cash is given to artistes from the North-east for their lifelong contribution in the spheres of painting and sculpture.

Presenting the award, litterateur and folklorist Dr Birendranath Datta said the North-east had an enduring tradition of art and culture and it was due to the efforts of sincere artistes like the late Pranab Baruah and Koolchandra M�Them that the traditions were thriving.

Koolchandra M�Them, in his speech said the artistes of the North-east needed a common platform for showcasing their creativity. Later, an album of paintings by the late Pranab Baruah published by the Pranab Baruah Memorial Trust was released.
