UWAHATI, Nov 17 - Employees of the electricity sector formed a new organisation, Assam State Electricity Workers� Union, during a convention held here on Sunday.
The new organisation was formed by merging the Assam State Electricity Supply Mazdoor Union and the Assam State Electricity Karmi Sangha.
The newly-formed organisation has decided to support the national strike by power sector employees called on January 8. It has also extended support to a strike by power sector employees and engineers of Uttar Pradesh called on November 18 and 19.
Members of the organisation also decided to carry out a sustained movement in the State to protect the power sector from privatisation.
