Positive attitude key to good leadership: CM

GUWAHATI, Aug 10 � �Positive attitude in life is very necessary for the youth to be good leaders. They should not give up and always try to achieve their goals with a positive frame of mind,� said Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi while speaking during the valedictory function of the first State Level Youth Leadership Orientation Summit at the IIBM Auditorium on Saturday evening.

The Chief Minister also stated that since 2001, the government had taken many steps to uplift the education scenario in the State by setting up new universities, institutes and centres of higher learning. The Chief Minister claimed that compared to many other States in the country, Assam, which is known to be backward on many fronts, has been highly successful in bringing two Central universities, IIT-G, TISS Guwahati, University of Cooperative Management, Petroleum Technology Institute and many others to the State.

Organised by the State Level Advisory Committee (SLAC) for Students and Youth Welfare, Assam, with the theme �Learn-Lead-Serve�, the valedictory function of the summit programme was also attended by the member secretary of the organising body Debabrata Saikia, MLA, Nazira, Anjan Sarma, Director (I/c), Sports and Youth Welfare Department, senior journalist Samudra Gupta Kashyap, Dr Abhijit Sarma, Associate Professor, Indian Institute of Bank Management, Dr Rajib Handique, Professor of History, Gauhati University, Samir Baruah, leadership trainer, besides many other distinguished guests and citizens.

The two-day residential summit saw participation of around 50 chosen youth leaders recommended by the government universities in Assam. Participants from the Dibrugarh University, the Assam Agriculture University and the Gauhati University took part in the programme, which was attended by a jury of eminent resource persons including Dr Mridul Hazarika, Vice Chancellor, Gauhati University, Father VM Thomas, founder Director, Don Bosco Institute, Dr Bandana Bhuyan, Regional Director, NIPCCD, Dr Amiya Sharma, Executive Director, RGVN, Dr Sriparna B Baruah, HoD, CIE, IIE, Guwahati, Deba Kr Baruah, yoga and meditation guru, among others.

Some of the resource persons present during the valedictory function and a few participants also spoke briefly during the function and expressed their feelings and experiences in the summit. They requested the Chief Minister to take the model to district level so that many more aspiring youth leaders can get the necessary exposure.

Speaking on the occasion, Debabrata Saikia, member secretary, SLAC for Students and Youth Welfare, Assam, said that although a lot still remains to be done in the spheres of education, skill development and youth empowerment, many positive steps have already been taken in this regard.

During the valedictory function, the Chief Minister presented certificates to the participants and encouraged them to continue their efforts to be good leaders and lead others in the society.
