MANGALDAI, April 5 - Darrang Police on Sunday picked up nine persons, all hailing from Mumbai, who were staying in the residential campus of one Yakub Ali at Komarpara village under Kharupetia police station.

Police said the Mumbaikars, mostly youths, have been residing in Alis campus since the day of announcement of nationwide lockdown in the wake of coronavirus outbreak. Prior to that they were visiting various mosques of Darrang district for religious purposes.

While ruling out their links with the recent Tablighi Jamaat event at Nizamuddin, Darrang SP Amrit Bhuyan said they had come to the district in February. They have been taken to hospital with the help of health department personnel for necessary medical examination, he added.
