GUWAHATI, Sept 20 - Industries and Commerce Minister Chandra Mohan Patowary today said that it is imperative for the tea planters of the State to improve the quality of their produce to regain its position in the global market and that is why special stress has to be laid on good plucking.
Patowary also said that it has written to the Tea Board of India to fix a minimum price for green tea leaf produced in the State.
The Tea Board, the minister said, is expected to take a call on this in their next meeting scheduled for September 24. Speaking to media this evening after his meeting with various stakeholders of the tea industry, the minister said that no stone will be left unturned to bail the tea industry out of the tough situation it is in.
�We have also requested the Tea Board to issue necessary guidelines for quality assurance,� Patowary said. �Not just our exports, even the domestic consumption has decreased. The only way to regain the lost market is by producing quality tea,� said Patowary.
