UDALGURI, May 6 - Jagmohan Singh (45), a professional pilot of Jet Airways, escaped from the clutches of alleged kidnappers at Sonaikhhowrang village under the Udalguri Police Station on May 4. He was later sent to the Jalukbari Police Station by the Udalguri Police with the transfer of the case as the incident originated in Guwahati.

Udalguri Police sources informed media persons on Thursday that as per the version of the pilot, he was camping at Hotel Radisson Blu and came out of the hotel early in the morning on May 3 to have a glimpse of the Brahmaputra river. He hired a taxi for the purpose. The taxi driver instead took him to another place and allegedly handed him over to some unidentified youths, who drove him to the Udalguri area and kept him in a house somewhere near the Sonaikhowrang area under the Udalguri Police Station. When the unidentified youths left him alone in the house for the night, the pilot managed to open the door the following morning and came out. He then contacted the police. Later, the Udalguri Police took him to the place where he was kept by the abductors, but the pilot could not ascertain the actual location of his night stay.

Meanwhile, Rakesh Roshan, SP of Udalguri district, told this correspondent that the police camping at Sonaikhowrang helped the pilot and brought him to the Udalguri Police Station where he lodged an FIR. The Udalguri Police later handed him to the Jalukbari Police as the case originated under the jurisdiction of the Jalukbari Police Station.

The kidnapping bid of a pilot, who actually remains under tight security, has created sensation in Udalguri, which also points at the possibility of a close nexus between extremist outfits and some taxi drivers of Guwahati, sources said.
