Photo journal on Mising tribe released

JORHAT, March 13 - A book titled Tani Cool, a photo journal about the Mising tribe to showcase various aspects of the community, accompanied by brief descriptions, was released by Reverend Jose Kuruvachira, the provincial superior of Don Bosco organizations in Assam, Arunachal Pradesh and Nagaland, at the Don Bosco institute, Baghchung, on the outskirts here recently.

A press note issued by Father KA Thomas � who has authored the photo journal � stated that the book is a random collection of photographs taken by him during the period 2000 to 2015, during his (Thomas) visits to rural areas inhabited by the Mising tribe in Assam and Arunchal Pradesh.

The pictures were from 11 districts of Assam and three districts of Arunachal Pradesh, the note stated.

The collection was on 46 subjects depicting different rituals and events of the Mising tribe. Senior educationists and social workers from Golaghat, Jorhat, Sivasagar, Dibrugarh and Tinsukia districts attended the book release function, the note stated.

Father Thomas is the founder-director of the I-CARD (Institution for Culture And Rural Development) based at Baghchung outskirts here. He is an Ashoka Fellow since 2002 and hails from Kerala.
