Patriots Day observed in Manipur

IMPHAL, Aug 13 - Manipur observed Patriots Day on Saturday to commemorate the 1891 Anglo-Manipuri War in which scores of people sacrificed their lives to safeguard the independence of the land.

State Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh paid floral tributes to the departed souls at the historic Hicham Yaicham Pat at Moirangkhom and Thangal General Temple complex at Palace Compound here today.

In the afternoon, a function was held at Bir Tikendrajit Park here after laying of wreath to the martyrs at Kangla Uttra inside Kangla Fort.

Manipur Governor V Samuganathan and CM attended the observation. The speakers on the occasion called upon the people to work unitedly for the development of Manipur.
