Patriotic song contest organised

GUWAHATI, Oct 12 - Bharat Vikas Parishad, North East Region, organised the second regional National Group Song Competition (Patriotic Songs) at Shilpgram here recently. Teams from all the eight North East states participated in it.

The programme was held in two sessions. In the first session, Dr Gautam Biswas, Director of IIT Guwahati, inaugurated the competition as the chief guest. Floral tributes were paid to the freedom fighters of the North East by the chief guest and other dignitaries. The competition was held in three groups � Hindi, Sanskrit and regional language.

In the Hindi and Sanskrit song categories, the teams from Tripura, Assam and Manipur secured the first, second and third positions respectively, a press release said. In the regional song category, the teams from Assam, Manipur and Meghalaya secured the first, second and the third positions respectively.

In the second session, Governor Prof Jagdish Mukhi was the chief guest. Gopal Sikdar, Chief General Manager, IOCL, Bongaigaon Refinery, was the guest of honour. Sitaram Parik, national coordinator, BVP, Suresh Jain, national organising secretary, BVP, Dr S Rajendra Singh, national vice president, BVP, Dr M Premjit Singh, Vice Chancellor, Central Agriculture University, Manipur as well as patron of BVP, and Swadesh Ranjan Goswami, national additional secretary general, BVP, were also present. The Governor and other dignitaries also paid floral tributes to the freedom fighters of the region.

A souvenir, Sraddhanjali, commemorating the region�s freedom fighters was released by Dr Mukhi. The prizes to the winning teams were presented by the Governor and dignitaries. The programme ended with a vote of thanks by Munindra Mishra, general secretary, BVP, Tripura.
