Panjabari elders� body condoles death

GUWAHATI, April 5 - The organisation of senior citizens of Panjabari, in its meeting held on Thursday, condoled the death of its oldest member Jogesh Goswami, on April 2 at the age of 94.

Ranajit Sutradhar, secretary, public relations, explained the purpose of the meeting and dwelt at length on the manifold qualities of the departed senior member.

Dal Bahadur Chetri, president of the organization, paid tributes to the memory of Goswami and described him as a gentleman to the core and a person fully devoted to the larger welfare of society.

Tabiul Hussain said that Goswami was a soft-spoken, kind-hearted and honest man who did not have any enemy all through his life.

Abdul Wasi, Ranendra Barman and Nagen Bhuyan, in their speeches, said that Goswami who had retired as secretary of Mahkuma Parishad, Sivasagar, upheld the principles of selfless service to society and his impeccable honesty.

DN Chakravartty, while presiding over the session, said that in the passing away of Goswami, Panjabari in particular and Guwahati in general lost a gentleman and social worker who was committed to the cause of truth, justice and service to the suffering humanity. He added that through his unblemished services, Goswami could earn great appreciation from the senior ICS officers of those days.

He said that Goswami � a vastly read man � was a prolific writer who, besides having contributed to scores of journals, produced five valuable books.
