Pangolin scales, ginseng seized

SILCHAR, July 2 - In a major catch, the Serchhip Battalion of Assam Rifles under 23 Sector of Inspector General Assam Rifles (EAST) recovered a huge quantity of drug ginseng and banned pangolin scales from Zokhawthar in Champhai district of Mizoram.

In a release issued to the media today, it was informed that an operation was carried out by a combined team of Intelligence, Customs Department, Assam Rifles and Mizoram Police on the basis of specific information and 15 kg of pangolin scales and as many as 610 kgs of ginseng recovered. The recovery was made near the Tyao river along the border. Sources said that the estimated value of the recovered items is around Rs 50 lakh.
