GUWAHATI, Sept 7 - The State government will offer one-time grant of Rs 50,000 each to one thousand youth litterateurs of the State under the Asom Bhasha Gourab Achoni.
Young litterateurs selected by indigenous Sahitya Sabhas (literary bodies) would be offered the grant so that the language, literature, culture and traditions of the State can be preserved and reflected through their literary works.
Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal has directed the education department to take immediate steps in this regard.
The Chief Minister issued the direction at a meeting held today in his conference room at Janata Bhawan here to review the status of implementation of announcements made in his Independence Day speech and the announcements of the education department included in the this year�s Budget.
The announcement made in the Independence Day speech for providing light passenger carrying vehicles to 10,000 youths of 10,000 villages at 25 per cent subsidy also came up for review and Sonowal directed the transport department to start the scheme by October 2. Moreover, he also directed the department to expand the scheme of providing service of 1,000 new buses to the rural areas so that improved connectivity and transportation could be made available in the villages.
Sonowal instructed the Public Health Engineering Department to take necessary steps for providing financial assistance to one lakh families for construction of toilets, stressing the need to cover the flood-affected families on a priority basis under the scheme. Notably, the State government has already completed construction of toilets in the households of all the beneficiaries eligible under the Socio Economic and Caste Census (SECC) 2011 and it was announced during the Independence Day speech that another one lakh poor families, not covered by SECC 2011, would also be provided financial assistance by the State government for toilet construction.
Issues of providing facilities of running water, toilets and free sanitary napkin vending machines in girls� common rooms at all government and provincialised high schools and higher secondary schools of the State also came up for discussion at the meeting with the Chief Minister directing the education department to start the services on a pilot basis in a few schools of the State by October 15.
