KOHIMA, May 2 - Nagaland State Veterinary Council (NSVC) as part of the observation of World Veterinary Day on Saturday resolved to work towards enhancement of professional efficiency and also undertake rabies control initiative.
Nagaland joined the world in celebrating the day under the aegis of NSVC on the theme �Continuing Education with a One Health Focus� in the State capital yesterday.
Commissioner and Secretary, Veterinary and Animal Husbandry Department, MK Mero addressing the veterinarians on the occasion called upon the State Veterinary doctors to continue to educate themselves to gain professional efficiency and improve the health of animals, human beings and environment.
Mero said that as per a study report, 60 per cent of known human infection diseases have their origins from animals, so also 75 per cent of emerging human diseases have their roots in animals such as Anthropoid-borne disease like Ebola and Yellow Fever, Rodent-borne diseases like Avian Flu, etc.
Meanwhile, Dr Michael Imti Imchen was awarded the Best Veterinarian of the State. Around 80 veterinarians from across the State participated in the programme. � PTI
