NSUI stir over poll promises

GUWAHATI, Sept 15 - The members of the Assam unit of the National Students� Union of India (NSUI) staged a demonstration at the Dispur Last Gate here today, demanding fulfilment of poll promises made by the State and Central governments.

The NSUI also demanded measures to arrest rising prices of essential commodities, publication of an error-free and up-to-date National Register of Citizens (NRC), adequate relief to the flood-affected people and their rehabilitation, among others. Office-bearers of the State committee of the Youth Congress also took part in the demonstration.

Leader of Opposition Debabrata Saikia, deputy leader of the Assam Congress Legislature Party Rockybul Hussain, MLAs Rupjyoti Kurmi, Abdul Khaleque, Kamalakhya Dey Purkayastha and Nurul Huda also joined the demonstrators. The NSUI later sent a memorandum listing all the above demands to the Chief Minister, said a press release.
