GUWAHATI, Dec 4 � Following the publication of Bengali translations of Burhi Air Sadhu and Namghosa, author Saktimoy Das and the Jatiya Sahitya Prakashan Trust of Kolkata are set to bring out the Bengali versions of Kirtan Ghosa by Srimanta Sankardev and Rangmilir Hahi by Rong Bong Terang.
Das who has translated several Assamese books told The Assam Tribune that the Trust had an ambitious plan of publishing translated versions of a host of Assamese literary works which included several classics.
"We are planning to publish a number of Assamese literary works in Bengali, with Sankardev's Kirtan Ghosa and Rong Bong Terang's Rongmilir Hahi set to hit the stands soon. Also on the offing are Sri Sri Sankardev aru Sri Sri Madhavdev by Lakshminath Bezbaruah, a biography of Jyotiprasad Agarwala, collections of works of poets Ganesh Gogoi and
Jnanananda Sharma Pathak, a commemorative volume on Keshab Mahanta, books by Samir Tanti, Dr Pramod Bhattacharya, Riju Hazarika, Upendra Barkataki and Nanda Singh, etc.," Das said.
Das who is the Trust's general secretary said that apart from Bengali translation of Assamese works, the Trust also had a plan to translate acclaimed creations from ethnic languages such as Bodo.
Das said that all along since he took up the task of translation in 1995, his stress has been on preserving the essence of the Assamese flavour in the books. "The Assamese literary tradition is a rich one, and my endeavour all along has been to introduce that to the Bengali readers," he said.
