Nottingham assignment for Assam-origin Prof

GUWAHATI, June 15 - The University of Nottingham has appointed Assam-origin Prof Nayan Sarma as Honorary Professor of River Science in the School of Geography for a period of three years from August 1, 2016.

Prof Sarma is now a senior professor in the Department of Water Resources Development and Management of the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Roorkee.

Dr Paul Greatrix, Registrar of the University of Nottingham in a letter to Prof Sarma on June 9, 2016, said, �The University makes a number of these appointments so that distinguished practitioners in the professions or in business or in industry may, by lectures or seminars with students or by collaboration in research, strengthen the links between the University and those engaged in practical experience in the relevant professions.�

Prof Sarma�s areas of interest include water resources engineering, river engineering, hydraulic structures for irrigation and hydel schemes, concrete dams and ecosystems.
