GUWAHATI, Oct 24 � Noted footballer of the State in the 1960s, Indrajit Namchoom, died in a Kolkata nursing home yesterday.
The 71-year Namchoom was suffering from prolonged illness.
Born in NEFA, now Arunachal Pradesh, on September 1, 1942, he came to Guwahati for study in Don Bosco School from where he completed his matriculation in 1960.
A former Minister of in the Arunachal Pradesh Government, Namchoom played for Gauhati Town Club from 1962 to 1969 and became the youngest player to represent Assam in the Santosh Trophy in 1959. Namchoom was the captain of the Assam Santosh Trophy team in 1963 and 1964.
The leading striker of that period, Namchoom was selected to represent the Indian junior team in two international championships held in Saigon and Malaysia in 1964.
Namchoom�s death has been condoled by Gauhati Town Club and Assam Football Association.
