Update: 2010-09-15 00:00 GMT

NEW DELHI, Sept 8 - Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh today reiterated that no bonafide Indian citizen would be left out of the National Register of Citizens (NRC) being updated in Assam.

Addressing the North East Fest 2018 organised by My Home India at the Talkatora Stadium here, Singh admitted that there was some confusion in the NRC update exercise. But the people of the country have the right to know who is a foreigner and who is a bonafide citizen, he added.

The Union Home Ministers statement is significant in the backdrop of the latest developments relating to the Supreme Court seeking a sample survey of 10 per cent of those included in the final draft

of the NRC and the NRC Coordinators report on acceptance of 10 out of the 15 documents.

Meanwhile, the Assam BJP is up in arms against NRC State Coordinator Prateek Hajela with the State BJP president likely to lodge a complaint against him with the central leadership over the exclusion of Hindu Bengalis, Nepalis and Hindi-speaking communities.
