Nitish bags chess crown

GUWAHATI, June 5 - Nitish Das won the title in the Noonmati Chess Academy Rapid Chess Tournament, organised by the Noonmati Chess Academy and recognised by the Guwahati Chess Association yesterday at the Staff Institute Community Hall, Sector III, Guwahati Refinery Township.

Nitish remained unbeaten throughout the tournament and scored perfect 7 points from 7 rounds to claim the title. In the final round Nitish beat top seed CH Meghna. Chiraranjan Bhuyan scored 6.5 points from same number of rounds and got the second position. CH Meghna, Arunabh Gohain and Aarohan Bharadwaj scored 6 points each and got third fourth and fifth position respectively. Madhab Sarma, Uddipta Gogoi, Padma Gogoi and Divyanga Spondon Baruah scored 5.5 points from same number of rounds and got sixth, seventh, eighth and ninth position according to their tie-break score. Debanga Kalita scored 5 points to be placed in tenth. Usha Sonowal scored 3.5 points and got first position in woman section while Hiramani Das got second position by scoring 3 points and Tanishka Sarma got third position by scoring 2 points, stated a release.
