Nine rhino poachers nabbed

BISWANATH CHARIALI, May 1 � Continuing with its crackdown on rhino poachers, Gohpur police under Biswanath police district achieved a major success today when they managed to apprehend as many as nine rhino poachers including an Arunachal Police inspector, at Gohpur and Bandardewa.

Acting on a tip-off, police detained a few persons along with a Maruti vehicle in Gohpur town in the wee hours today. Later, the police managed to arrest some more persons at Bandardewa on the basis of information provided by those held at Gohpur.

The arrested persons have been identified as Abdul Rashid, Abdul Kalam, Hanif Ali and Babul Hussein from Jamugurihat, Dilip Buragohain from Dhemaji, Gautam Dutta from Jadavpur, Kolkata and Kamto Tao, Charu Kora and Charu Topio from Arunachal Pradesh. Interestingly, Gautam Dutta is an inspector working with Arunachal Police (SB).

The police also recovered a rhino horn, a Scorpio vehicle, a Maruti car and a bike from their possession. Further investigation is on.
