NGO members visit old-age home

GUWAHATI, Oct 22 - A group of ten members of the organisation Confluence�56 visited Amar Ghar, an old-age home at Patharquary here on Saturday, where about 40 aged men and women are sheltered by the Ambikagiri Memorial Trust Society, said a release today.

President of the Trust Biswa Dutta, honorary secretary Manju Dutta Barua and adviser Jugabrata Dutta, among others, arranged an informal get-together with the inmates of the old-age home. Besides all other required facilities, the trust maintains a well-equipped meeting hall, a library and reading room and comfortable rooms for the inmates.

Dr BR Bhuyan, president of Confluence�56, spoke about the formation of the organisation by the Gauhati University Matriculates of 1956 batch, and its objectives.

Manju Dutta Barua thanked Confluence�56 for offering 60 books to the library and fruits and other food items to the inmates, who enthusiastically participated in the get-together.

From the Confluence�56 side, Prof Manjumala Das recited a poem composed by Nirmal Prava Bardoloi and thanked the trust for their permission to visit the old-age home and meet the senior citizens who come from different parts of the North-east and also from outside the State to spend the rest of their lives in peace and happiness.
