Zonal meet on legal services
Bongaigaon, Nov 30 - The Bongaigaon District Legal Services Authority organised the third zonal consultation programme of its secretaries and para legal volunteers at the conference hall of the district judicial court building here on Monday, under the aegis of the Assam State Legal Services Authority, Guwahati. Bongaigaon DLSA chairman and the District and Sessions Judge SN Sarma delivered the welcome address before Chief Justice (Acting) of Gauhati High Court and executive chairman of ASLSA N Kotiswar Singh delivered the inaugural address through video-conferencing. ASLSA member secretary NS Baruah and Gauhati High Court Legal Services Committee secretary SP Moitra also spoke. The sessions ended with the concluding remarks by ASLSA deputy secretary Tripti Ari. � Correspondent
Drug peddlers held
NAGAON, Nov 30 - Haiborgaon police led by SI A Rahman arrested two drug peddlers from Chalchali area under the Nagaon Sadar Police Station last night and seized huge quantities of illegal drugs from their possession. The peddlers were identified as Jamir Uddin of Kadamoni near Batadrova and Khairul Islam of Dhing Matkhula. Meanwhile, Haiborgaon police also seized an illegal cattle-laden pick-up van near the police outpost and arrested three persons, including the driver and his helper. Eye camp for truck drivers
RAHA, Nov 30 - The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has embarked on a novel mission to provide free eye treatment to truck drivers by organising eye check-up camps at the Raha toll plaza on Sunday along with several other toll plazas in the Northeast. The NHAI PIU-Guwahati took the initiative in collaboration with the State health department under the National Programme for Control of Blindness and Visual Impairment 2020. Altogether 60 truck drivers were screened and provided medicines at the camp. � ANN Service

DERGAON, Nov 30 - The 20th edition of the annual school magazine of Numaligarh High School, Numali, was released on Saturday. Releasing the magazine edited by student Arati Gupta, the headmaster of the school Mahen Saikia expressed his satisfaction over its publication and said that regular publication of the magazine would certainly help the students, especially those from the tea garden areas, to enhance their literary skills. � Correspondent
