IMPHAL, April 3 (PTI) - Former Director General of Police (Jammu and Kashmir) Gopal Sharma today assumed charge as the security adviser to Manipur Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh, officials said.

Sharma would advise the CM on all security issues in Manipur for a tenure of two years, they said.

He was appointed for the freshly-created post by a three-member panel as provided by the Centre in view of the increasing insurgency problem in this border State.

Sharma, a 1972 batch IPS officer, was security adviser to former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Gulam Nabi Azad.
