New schemes of State chess body

GUWAHATI, May 3 � The adhoc committee of the All Assam Chess Association, which was set up by the All India Chess Federation in its Central Council meeting on April 4, has decided to organise seven prize-money rating tournaments during the year with Rs 4.5 lakh Jugal Kishore Newatia championship being the highest.

Disclosing this in a press conference here today, the adhoc body members said, the annual registration fees of the players has been reduced to Rs 50 from Rs 100. They will also provide all financial back up to the players who were selected in the last State championship at Silchar for taking part in the national meet. The adhoc body also announce financial support to the organising districts of the rating tournaments.

The adhoc committee also decided to provide scholarships in the form of school fees to the needy State champions in both boys and girls categories in the age group of U-7 to U-15 years.

The members of the adhoc committee are: Rajeev Kumar Bora (chairman), Biswajit Bharadwai (secretary), Laishram Imocha, Binod Khemka, Mridul Kr Mahanta (all members).
