NDRF carries out plantation in city areas

GUWAHATI, Sept 4 - The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) in association with the Forest department, Kamrup Metro district, recently carried out a tree plantation and water-bodies cleaning drive at Deepor Beel, Umananda Temple and Azara PHC.

The drive was also carried out at NDRF campus, Changsari, Mirza, Patgaon, Barpeta, Jorhat, Cachar and Bongaigaon, besides Agartala and Aizawl.

During the campaign 4,500 saplings were planted by the NDRF and the Forest department. The purpose of the tree plantation drive was to promote and protect the green cover. The NDRF appealed to the people to plant more and more trees and take care of the plantation thereafter, a statement said.

In the statement, RS Gill, Officiating Commandant of the NDRF, expressed gratitude to the Forest department for providing the saplings. He said tree plantation is very important for the community and this initiative will go a long way in inculcating awareness among the people about environment conservation.

He urged the people to use only bags made of cloth to make the environment a polythene-free.
