National hockey meet begins at Imphal

IMPHAL, May 5 - The 6th Hockey India Sub-Junior Men�s National Championship A and B division got off at the Khuman Lampak Sports Complex here today. The championship will continue till May 22.

Speaker of the Manipur assembly Th Lokeshwar was the chief guest of the opening function while ruling congress MLAs Kh Deven (Sekmai) and T Mangibabu (Thanga) along with Director of Sports JNIMS Deven and Manipur Hockey (MH) president and former Olympian Ksh Thoiba Singh besides others attended the inaugural function.

In the day�s opening match, Dadar and Nagar Haveli beat Puducherry by 18-0 goals in the 22-team B division. A 20-member Assam hockey team, including two officials, which already arrived here, is also taking part in the championship. The team will meet Bihar in their first match on May 7. Assam will also face Mumbai, Rajasthan and Citizen teams on May 10, 12 and 13 respectively. A total of 39 teams � 16 for A division and 22 for B division � are taking part in the championship. The A division will be held from May 14 to 22 while the B division will be held from May 5-16.
