DIGBOI, Sept 25 - Jotishman Moran, a NSS volunteer of Digboi College and a resident of Ramnagar locality was conferred the National NSS Volunteer Award for the year 2017-18 by the President of India, Ramnath Kovind at a glittering ceremony at the Rashtrapati Bhavan on Tuesday.
Jotishman organised several programmes like the Gender Sensitisation Programme on the International Women�s Day, 2018, conducted a socio-economic survey at a model village at Saraipung Forest Village and devoted his time towards educating school children during his vacations, etc. He was also involved in many health camps and cleanliness drives beside taking initiatives in the cultural events in the college as well as in the adopted village at Saraipung.
He is also a professional classical dancer (Satriya) and a classical vocalist.
Rajib Rudra Tariang, the Programme Officer, NSS Digboi College Unit has been instrumental and constantly played a pivotal role in monitoring and guiding the proud student all throughout through various significant activities.
Dr David Kardong, Programme Coordinator of the NSS Cell of Dibrugarh University, who has also been the HoD of Life Sciences, Dibrugarh University congratulated Digboi College and the recipient of the prestigious award. According to him, it is the first time that a college student under Dibrugarh University has been nationally recognised.
Meanwhile, during the National NSS Day celebration here today at Digboi College, Dr Nirza Saikia, the Medical & Health Officer- 1, spoke on �Adolescents� Health� with special reference to substance abuse: Impact on health and ways of prevention.
