Nalbari College team wins girls� quiz contest

GUWAHATI, March 6 - An all Assam open quiz contest exclusively for girls was organised under the aegis of Naari Saraswat Manch on March 3 at Sudmersen Hall, Cotton University here, said a press release. The quiz was funded by the family of the late Kshiroda Choudhury. Forty-two teams participated in the event open for students from Class IX upto post graduate level of any discipline. It was conducted by Dilip Kumar Sarma and Dipankar Kaushik.

All the six teams reaching the finals received cash prizes and certificates. The team comprising Papari Devi and Dipsikha Barman from Nalbari College carried away a cash amount of Rs 5,000 as first prize. Smita Choudhury and Pratiksha Dey from Cotton University bagged the second prize and got Rs 3,000 in cash, while Chandamita Pathak from Gauhati University and Ankita Goswami from B Barooah College were awarded Rs 2,000 as the third prize. The fourth, fifth and sixth teams comprising Karabi Sarma and Devika Saikia, Anuradha Rana Das and Ayesha Masuma, and Ankurima Das and Jaba Saikia respectively were also awarded cash and certificates.

Earlier, first Assamese woman pilot Dhira Hazarika lit the lamp and declared the event open. She also gave away the prizes together with retired bureaucrat Rabendra Nath Das and members of the late Kshiroda Choudhury�s family.

The first round was dedicated to the first woman quizzard and quiz master of Assam, Professor Indira Barua. The team of Minakshi Goswami from Assam Jatiya Bidyalay, Guwahati and Pallavi Devi won this special prize awarded by Aparajita Lahkar, noted woman quizzard and eldest daughter of Kshiroda Choudhury. The best participant audience was Jharna Bharali.
