NEW DELHI, May 4 - While none of the cities from the Northeast qualified among the top 50, Nagaon has been declared the cleanest Medium City, while Gangtok has emerged as the cleanest among the Big Cities.
Faridabad in Haryana has emerged as the �Fastest Mover Big City� at the national level in the Swachh Survekshan -2017, results of which were announced here today by the Minister of Urban Development, M Venkaiah Naidu.
At the national level, in the Small Cities category. Rewa, Madhya Pradesh, has emerged as the �Faster Mover� in the Medium Cities category, while Khargone, Madhya Pradesh, moved the fastest by significantly improving its rank this year over that of 2014 Survey in the Small Cities category.
Aizawl, the capital city of Mizoram, has been ranked as cleanest among the Fast Moving Big City.
In the Swachh Survekshan 2017 category, four cities of Assam were surveyed and Guwahati was given the best rank, while Dibrugarh was given the lowest rank.
Meanwhile, reacting to Nagaon being declared as the cleanest medium city, local Lok Sabha MP and Minister of State for Railways, Rajen Gohain, said that he felt very proud and in the coming days he would strive to develop the city even more.
Meanwhile, the Indore city of Madhya Pradesh has bagged the first position in the top-ten clean cities of the country. Bhopal is ranked second and Vishakhapatnam is in the third position.
Releasing the Swachh Survekshan 2017, Naidu said making India clean by 2019 is a serious mission. Naidu said it is part of the mission of Making of a Developed India. He said the whole purpose of the sanitation survey is to make cities know where they stand in cleanliness.
The Swachh Survekshan was commissioned in 434 cities which saw the participation of 37 lakh citizens. Gujarat has a maximum of 12 cities among the top 50.
