DIMAPUR, Oct 10 - Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari has given an assurance to expedite the construction of the four-lane National Highway-29 from Dimapur to Kohima.

Gadkari gave the assurance after Nagaland Lok Sabha member Tokheho Yepthomi, along with a top official of the National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL), met him in New Delhi on Wednesday.

Met @nitin_gadkari regarding the slow progress of 4 lane road between Dimapur-Kohima. Honble Minister has assured to accelerate construction of this crucial road, Yepthomi said on his Twitter handle.

The Nagaland MP also submitted a letter to Gadkari, seeking the latters intervention in the issue relating to the slow progress of the road construction works. Yepthomi urged Gadkari to personally intervene in this matter and look into the unnecessary hardships the people of the State have been made to face on a daily basis.

You are aware that the work has been undertaken by National Highway and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL) with a construction period of 3 (three) years. The work is well over the stipulated time and is nowhere near completion, the MP said.

The letter also said the completed portions of the road have already developed potholes, which only indicates poor work done by sub-contractors.

Yepthomi said the people of Nagaland have been facing immeasurable problems due to the delay and poor workmanship of this vital road leading to the State capital from the commercial capital, Dimapur. The MP said traffic jams on this route have become a routine exercise for travellers who are frequently stuck for hours at a stretch and overnight at times. Yepthomi rued that he had also raised the issue on the floor of the House, but to no avail.
