He was welcomed by Sanjib Deka, president; Dhiraj Kakati, advisor; Monimala Bora, secretary and other members of the committee.

Barua appreciated the initiative taken by the committee and assured it of his support for the much needed electric crematorium, which other than being environmentally benign, would be affordable and would offer an honourable and dignified way of cremation of near and dear ones.

The committee has offered a vacant plot of nearly eight bighas for setting up this modern electric crematorium by the GMDA. Tenders have been accepted and pending finalisation.

The GMDA Chairman assured the committee that he would personally pursue the project.
