Mizoram local bodies polls today

AIZAWL, Aug 26 - The Mizoram State Election Commission (SEC) is all set to hold polls for local bodies across the State on Thursday with the exclusion of some areas where local transmission cases of COVID-19 have been reported.

The SEC has deferred elections to one village council in Aizawl district and 19 local councils in the Aizawl municipal area to prevent the spread of novel coronavirus, according to an order today.

The order issued by State Election Commissioner Laima Chozah, stated that polling for one village council, Muallungthu, and 19 local councils in Aizawl has been deferred until further order.

Except in the specified areas, elections to the village councils and local councils will be held as per schedule from 7 am to 5 pm on Thursday.

The SEC has laid out strict safety protocols to be followed by voters and election officials to prevent community spread of the novel coronavirus.

Counting will be held after the end of polling at 5 pm on Thursday. The last date of the campaign for the rural and local body polls had ended on Tuesday.
