JORHAT, April 30 - A gang of unidentified miscreants uprooted an unguarded SBI ATM from TR Phookan Road of Soladhara area here, having Rs 12 lakh, and decamped with the machine in a vehicle around 4 am today.

Though police sent a team after receiving the information they are yet to locate the gang of criminals.

As a security guard of a nearby office of the bank saw the incident and reported it to the authority concerned, the team of investigators took his statement for further investigation.

According to police, four to five criminals were involved in the crime who came in two cars.

It is to be mentioned that Jorhat has witnessed three major cases of ATM loot in the past six months.

Though a few months back, police and bank authority decided to intensify the security system to prevent such incidents, the frequent occurrence of loot cases apparently shows the lack of adequate security across the city.
