Minister visits flood-hit Chirang, Bongaigaon

BONGAIGAON, Aug 23 - Fisheries and Water Resources Minister Basanta Das today visited the flood-hit areas in Chirang and Bongaigaon districts and took stock of the current flood situation.

The minister was accompanied by Rongwra Narzary, Kajalgaon MCLA, Mauthi Brahma Hazowari, Chirang MCLA, Guneswar Goyari, Sobaijhar MCLA, Nirmal Kumar Brahma, Nishima MCLA, Supriya Rani Brahma, Chirang district Congress president, Bhupen Ray, North Abhyapuri legislator, and Rupak Kumar Mazumdar, Chirang Deputy Commissioner, during his visit.

The minister visited the flood-hit villages Aie Powali, Bengtol, Bhur Tiniali, Domgaon, Dangaigaon, Polangsuguri (Tulsijhora) in Chirang district and parts of North Abhayapuri constituency in Bongaigaon district to witness the damages caused by the flood.

In a reply to a question by media on compensation to the flood-hit agriculture and fish farmers, the minister said based on the assessment reports sent by the deputy commissioners to the Chief Minister, they would be �certainly compensated.�

Following his visit to these flood-affected areas, the minister also announced plans to take up a major project by the water resources department on the southern side of the Aie river to divert its course for the protection of adjacent villages in Chirang and Bongaigaon districts. For this, the minister has already asked the deputy commissioners of both the districts and the departments concerned to prepare a detailed project report, sources said.
