TURA, May 31 Four persons, including a CRPF ASI were injured in an early morning attack on a coal weigh bridge at Depa Sarangma village near Dainadubi in North Garo Hills, about 125 kms from here today.

The attack came at about 3.15 am when a grenade was lobbed in front of the weigh bridge before the militants opened random fire.

The police suspect the hand of either the AMEF or ANCA in the attack.

The weigh bridge also doubles up as the Transport department check point and may have been the actual target of the attack. However, the motive of the attack is still unknown as the Transport department confirmed that there was no demand note served on them.

The CRPF personnel posted there retaliated to the militant gunfire but they were able to escape taking advantage of the darkness, said NGH police chief Ramesh Singh.

According to locals, a crude bomb was first hurled at the check point after which the militants fired from their sophisticated weapons.

The four people injured in the attack have been identified as Timrik D Sangma, Kilapson Marak, Landrik Marak and ASI Santosh Lal of CRPF. Two of the injured were weigh bridge workers. All the four were taken to the nearby Dainadubi PHC for treatment.

A case was later registered this morning in the Dainadubi outpost upon the incident.
