Meet on rural development begins at USTM

JORABAT, Sept 6 - A two-day international conference on �Recent Trend and Practices of Science, Technology, Management and Humanities in Sustainable Rural Development� began at the University of Science and Technology-Meghalaya (USTM) today.

The conference is being organised by the university�s Department of Rural Development in collaboration with NIRDPR-NERC, SIPRD Assam and IIE, Guwahati, and is supported by Krishi Sanskriti, New Delhi.

The inaugural session was addressed by former chairman of UGC Bangladesh Prof Abdul Mannan. He said that farmers� interests need to be protected first.

A book titled Child Labour in Tripura, authored by Dr Papiya Dutta of the USTM, was released by dignitaries on the occasion.
