Meet on Dharmashastras

GUWAHATI, March 17 - The Department of Sanskrit, Gauhati University, under DRS-II UGC Special Assistance Programme (SAP) organised a two-day national seminar on the topic �Dharmashastras: Socio-cultural heritage of Assam and Manipur� here on March 15 and 16.

The seminar was inaugurated by Dr Mridul Hazarika, Vice Chancellor of Gauhati University. In his speech, he explained the importance of Dharmashastras in the present-day society.

Prof Dipak Kumar Sharma, Vice Chancellor of Kumar Bhaskar Varma Sanskrit and Ancient Studies University, Nalbari, was the chief guest of the occasion.

He discussed various topics related to the Dharmashastras and emphasises the teaching of Dharma, which is essential for development of a society.

Altogether 55 research papers were presented in the two-day seminar by scholars from Assam, Manipur, Arunachal, Kolkata and other parts of India.
