MANGALDAI, July 10 - The demand of the people of Darrang for functioning of the newly-built 100-bed Maternity and Child Health Wing at the Mangaldai Civil Hospital since the last two years was fulfilled as Piyush Hazarika, the Minister of State for Health & Family Welfare and Urban Development ceremonially dedicated the set-up to the public in the presence of many prominent persons including the MLA, Mangaldai, Gurujyoti Das, Deputy Commissioner, Ashok Kr Barman, Additional Deputy Commissioner (Health) Bidyut Bikash Bhagawati and Executive Director, NHM, Assam, Dr Achyut Kr Baisya on Wednesday.

Significantly, the authority took 28 months to open for public service after Basanta Das, the then Minister of the earlier Congress-led government and former MLA of Mangaldai had formally inaugurated the completed building on February 29, 2016. Meanwhile, addressing the public the Minister claimed that though the set-up was inaugurated earlier, its construction was not complete and furniture, fixtures, doctors, para-medical staff etc., were required to start its functioning. However, he hoped that the Rs 22.90 crore multi-storied health institution with all modern infrastructure like the major and minor operational theatres, obstetric ICU, wards for eclampsia patients, post delivery observation, pre-delivery, ante-natal, post-natal, high dependency, burn care, USG etc., besides seminar hall, library for doctors will cater to the needs of the poor patients and the medical fraternity of the area.
