Marriage of Goddess Kamakhya solemnised

GUWAHATI, Dec 20 � The marriage of Goddess Kamakhya was solemnized today at the Kamakhya Temple here as per the Hindu Assamese tradition. Kameswar Shiva was the groom in this marriage.

According to Anup Prasad Sarma, publicity secretary of the Kamakhya Debuttor Board, for the purpose of the marriage Goddess Kamakhya was named Kamakhya Kameswari.

The marriage of Kamakhya Kameswari with Kameswar Shiva is a three-day programme. Yesterday, the Adibas and the Joron were held in the post-dusk hours. Today, the marriage was celebrated and the rituals started after the dawn and continued till the dusk.

The rituals performed today included the nandimukh shradha, the lighting of the sacred fire (hom) etc. Tomorrow the bahi-biya will be performed in this connection.

This time Puppet House owned by Jebin Hazarika supplied 17 pairs of masks and costumes, eight pairs of hand gloves, ten caps for the members of the groom�s party. The masks of Nandi and Bhringi �the two assistants of Lord Shiva and Birabhadra, � prepared by Samaguri Sattra�s Pradip Goswami and Dhiren Goswami, were also on display today.

On the occasion of the marriage, Nagara Naam, Ojapali, Punjabi Bhangra dance, Kamrupi Dhuliya troupes, band parties also performed on the temple campus, said Sarma.
