Manipur, Nagaland witnessing weak monsoon

IMPHAL, Oct 8 - Manipur and Nagaland are facing rain deficiency this monsoon. Except Imphal West district, the remaining districts in Manipur have received less rain during this year�s monsoon from June 1 to September 25.

Similarly, except Dimapur district, in case of Nagaland, the remaining districts also received less rain, according to Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) reports.

Dr Sanjay Oneill Shaw of Regional Meteorological Centre, Guwahati told this reporter over phone that Manipur is facing a 35 per cent rain deficiency during monsoon this year. The State has received just 883.1 mm of rainfall this year against annual normal of around 1361.5 mm. The State received 784.4 mm of rainfall during monsoons last year.

Imphal East (-14 per cent), Thoubal (-44) and Senapati (-45) also recorded deficient rains. No data are available in case of Churachandpur, Chandel, Bishnupur, Tamenglong and Ukhrul.

In Nagaland, Kohima (-1 per cent), Phek (-45) and Wokha (-75) also reported deficit rain. No data is available for the remaining districts, as per IMD reports.

Yogi assurance: Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh met Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath regarding the suspicious death of Pravish Chanam, at UP Bhawan in New Delhi recently, official sources said.

The two leaders reviewed the information gathered by Manipur Additional DGP (Intelligence) Pramod Asthana, who has been camping at Noida to take firsthand account of the case.

Adityanath assured Singh to deliver justice by finding out the truth at the earliest.
