Manipur COVID-19 tally mounts to 36

IMPHAL, Sept 5 - The COVID-19 death toll in Manipur has reached 36 with one more person succumbing to the disease. The total virus tally in the State has climbed to 6,883.

�In the last 24 hours, one male aged 65 yrs (Thoubal district) expired at the JNIMS from COVID-19 and other comorbid conditions,� an official release stated. The cumulative number of deaths in the State is 36, it added.

�In the past 24 hours, 160 persons from the general population and 24 from the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs) were confirmed positive,� the press release said.

The new cases are from Imphal West, Imphal East, Ukhrul, Bishnupur, Thoubal, Chandel, Churachandpur, Tengnoupal, Tamenglong, Kangpokpi, Senapati and Noney, the release stated, adding that only six from Noney are returnees from other States and the rest 154 are locals without any significant travel history.

In the past 24 hours, 76 persons were also discharged after recovery from seven COVID care facilities. The cumulative number of discharged cases now stands at 4,975. The number of active cases is 1,872. The recovery rate is 72.27 per cent, the release added.

As of Saturday, a total of 3,51,400 persons were screened at various entry points of the State, while 1,69,093 individuals were tested for COVID-19 at various testing centres in the State, official sources said.
