IMPHAL, Oct 21 - Manipur State Conclave of National SC-ST Hub (NSSH) was held at Durbar Hall of Raj Bhavan here on Saturday in order to explore and promote entrepreneurship among Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (SC-ST) communities in the State.
Speaking on the occasion, State Governor Dr Najma Heptualla said Manipur has tremendous untapped resources which with proper grooming can participate effectively on the road to nation building.
Stating that the State is ranked 8th among biodiversity hotspots in the world, she said the State which is home to 600 varieties of orchids, has great potential in floriculture not to speak of other natural resources such as black rice, etc.
�We need to promote and export it. We also have so many varieties of orchids and medicinal plants which are not yet identified�, she added.
Stressing that these products have a great potential to become a means for generating income, she felt that more intense workshops need to be organised in Manipur to motivate the educated young men and women of SC & ST communities in the field of skill development and entrepreneurship.
In his speech, Chief Minister N Biren Singh said that special focus is being given to SC-ST entrepreneurs to uplift them economically by giving them training.
He said that his government is working under a motto �what we said we will do, we should deliver.� And under this motto, four women markets have been inaugurated in the districts. Now Senapati, Chandel and Tamenglong markets will be inaugurated within the first week of next month.
Officials of NSIC, Ministry of MSME, apart from experts from Bombay Stock Exchange and delegates from the districts in the State attended the programme.
