Update: 2010-09-15 00:00 GMT

IMPHAL, Dec 10 - Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh said that the three farm Acts enacted by the Central Government are in the larger interest of farmers, and that the State Government strongly supports these new agricultural laws.

Interacting with media persons at the Chief Ministers Secretariat here today, the Chief Minister said that any rollback of reforms measures would be detrimental to the cause of development.

Biren Singh observed that the present protests over the farm laws are due to the fears of commission agents and rich farmers getting to lose their stakes. There is also a misconception that the Centre would scrap the MSP, he added.

Biren Singh maintained that Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah had repeatedly assured the farmers that the Government has no plans to end the procurement system or the MSP policy.
