Man gets 12-year jail term for drug trafficking

GUWAHATI, Sept 14 - The Court of Additional Sessions Judge (No 1), Kamrup Metro recently awarded Md Nawaz Sharif 12 years of imprisonment along with a fine of Rs 1 lakh in a case related to drug trafficking reported in 2016.

Sharif was arrested by the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) in July 2016 in Guwahati with a truck carrying 2.560 kilograms of morphine. The NCB was represented by advocate Rituraj Baishya.

Sharif was convicted under section 21 � of the NDPS Act. �In case he fails to pay the fine, he will have to undergo another two years of simple imprisonment,� the court ordered.
