Majuli-Jorhat ferry service suspended indefinitely

JORHAT, May 10 - The Majuli district administration has suspended Majuli-Jorhat to and fro passenger service from today indefinitely in view of three Covid-19 positive cases detected in Jorhat on Saturday night.

An order passed by the Majuli District Magistrate today stated that in view of the threat posed by the potential outbreak of novel coronavirus and to ensure all possible preventive measures to stop the virus from spreading as well as for protection and safeguarding public health in Majuli district, ferry services between Majuli-Jorhat and vice-versa are suspended with immediate effect.

The order mentioned that only boat ambulances will be allowed to ply between Majuli-Jorhat and in case of goods ferry to ply, approval for the same has to be obtained from Food and Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs department authorities of Majuli district.

The order further stated that the suspension of the passenger ferry service between Majuli-Jorhat will remain in force until further orders.

It may be mentioned here that the Brahmaputra island administration had allowed resumption of daily ferry service from two ghats of Majuli to Nimatighat in Jorhat to and fro under certain conditions on May 5 after the third phase of lockdown came into force across the country from May 4.
