LP Dutta memorial award conferred on Jinti Barman

DIBRUGARH, March 29 - DHSK College here gave away its second LP Dutta Memorial Award to Jinti Barman of the Geography Department of the college for securing highest marks in her BA examination during the 2017-18 session. She was felicitated with a traditional gamusa and a cash prize of Rs 5000, besides a certificate and a sofura, a release stated.

This award, instituted in memory of renowned educationist and founder Principal of the college Dr LP Dutta, is second in a row and is given to the best graduate in Arts.

Dr LP Dutta was the Rector of the then infant Dibrugarh University. He not only co-founded the DHSK College, but was also a key architect of higher education in Upper Assam.

Dr Bharati Dutta, a retired teacher of the college attended the function as a distinguished guest and highlighted the enormous contributions of Dr LP Dutta in the field of education. She narrated the life history of Late Dutta and how he was instrumental in starting DHSK College, DHSK Commerce College, MDKG College and the Dibrugarh University. Rupnanda Dutta, a family member of Late Dutta, spoke about how she was constantly supported and guided by the patriarch.

Swetangana Bhuyan, a Community Development Consultant and Social Worker attended the function as the chief guest. Referring to the famous book Robinson Crusoe, she apprised the students that instead of running after monetary goals in their career, they should choose a self-reflective career and try to work for the benefit of the society in every way possible.

She also quoted a verse from Ruskin Bond�s Dare to Dream and encouraged the students to think outside the box and become well aware of the fast paced world today and requested everyone present to work for the development of the society and try to build a better world.

During the last academic session, this award was given away to Holi Dehingia of the Department of Geography.
