Leopards creating havoc in Rowta area

UDALGURI, Jan 2 - A herd of leopards coming out from the nearby Orang National Park have been creating havoc in the greater Rowta area since the last one month and the residents of Borobazar, Borigaon, Smulfuri, Anidol, Thaikajhar, Kodomtoli, Dabwgami, Maidanguri villages are spending sleepless nights as a consequence.

Talking to this correspondent, Dipen Boro, adviser of the Udalguri district committee of the All Bodo Students� Union (ABSU) said that at least ten leopards along with their cubs had been creating terror in the Borobazar area by killing cattle and goats of the villagers. The district forest officers for Udalguri and Darrang districts and the range officer of the Orang National Park were informed about the havoc created by the leopards in the area some twenty days ago by the villagers, but the forest officials have allegedly not taken any action in this regard.

Meanwhile, the Borobazar anchalik committee of the ABSU said that it would hold the forest officials responsible in the event that any casualties take place.
