GUWAHATI, April 3 - The Omeo Kumar Das Institute of Social Change and Development (OKDISCD), Guwahati, is organising a lecture on Contextualising Bhakti movement in Indian history at the Institute conference hall on April 5. The lecture, to be delivered by Professor Baniprasanna Misra, will aim to understand the Bhakti movement in the context of Indian history.

The Bhakti movement, though usually associated with the late medieval period, has a long history. At different periods, many factors played dominant roles in determining its course. But, most importantly, Bhakti is a distinct form with distinct contents, which considerably do not fall precisely in line with the popular understanding of Hinduism.

Prof Misra will throw light upon these issues in his lecture, the Institute said in a press release today.
