Lakshmi Puja observed

GUWAHATI, Oct 13 - Lakshmi Puja was observed across the State along with the rest of the country today.

Widely celebrated by households to pay obeisance to the Goddess of Wealth, the occasion is also observed with fervour in community pandals.

Many decorate their premises with colourful floor art (alpana) and offer delicious vegetarian platters to the Goddess and fast with prayers for prosperity.

Families also offer grains, flattened rice, gold, clothes, fruits, vegetables, etc., in obeisance to the deity who is worshipped in the form of clay idols, photographs and earthen disks with paintings of Lakshmi.

The city streets witnessed vendors making brisk sales of puja items and idols.
